Great Expectations - Easter 2022

When we read about the life of Jesus and the Jewish people the week prior to his crucifixion, we see that the expectations of what he would do were enormous! So many of these expectations revolved around him being a political savior and overthrowing their Roman oppressors, leading the Jews to a military victory, and providing peace and prosperity for their nation.

But Jesus had a much bigger picture and purpose in mind. He came to save the world by dying for the sins of everyone on the cross and by overcoming sin and death through his resurrection from the dead. In doing so, he extended the opportunity to be forgiven to all people, be the King of their lives, and provide an eternal home in heaven free of the consequences of sin and death.

We too can have great and misguided expectations of what Jesus can do for us and our temporal circumstances. While he cares about the here and now, his ultimate desires and purposes for us are much bigger than most of us think.
